I've been very happy with the sound quality of this reciever for years now. Haven't upgraded because I didn't want to spend the money on a comparable or better receiver and had heard from a denon guy that the newer 38 series recievers weren't built as well and didn't sound as good with music. I recently bought a 3d TV and the lip syncing issues on certain sources is driving me insane. I've been told that if i route everything through a reciever I should be ok.
So i guess to the point lol, Without breaking the bank, what advice on a new receiver would you guys give? Keep in mind I don't want to take a hit on sound quality for music, CD, sacd, DVD audio, and vinyl. Also I am fairly conversant with the technology. Thanks in advance.Marc. Thanks for the fast reply. Rolling around numbers now. I'd like to spend under a g lol, but I know that's probably not possible for a new receiver of the quality I need.
Because my receiver is not HDMI, I'm running hdmis to the TV and optical and coax to the receiver. The weird thing is my Xbox is pretty good with the lip synching, my ps3 is a little off, oppo is good, verizon box( got the newest one) is terrible. I'm using all 1.4 high speed HDMI cables. I just saw a denon 4310 CI new in box on Craigslist for around 8 bills.
What do you think? Originally Posted by marcus71Thanks, I will check it out. Any advice on new receivers? Doesn't necessarily have to be a Denon if it's a quality piece. The 38 series was replaced by the 43 series so the 4311 is what you need to look at if you don't want it to be a 'downgrade'. I really don't think you lose anything with music by going with the 3312 but its not going to have the power that the 38 series had.
The 4311 can be found for probably 300 over you budget but it will probably drop later this year when the replacement model comes out (4520?). I would give the 4311 a shot and see what XT32 can do with your system. The Onkyo 3009/5009 also have XT32 but I don't think you can find either of them cheaper than the 4311.
2 We greatly appreciate your purchase of the AVR-3802. 2 To be sure you take maximum advantage of all the features the AVR-3802 has to offer, read these instructions carefully and use the set properly.

Supposedly my 3802 has a better audio stage, bigger power supply, more shielding etc.Several former 3800 and 3802 owners posted in the Denon AVR-1910 thread a few years ago and were very impressed with the improved audio quality due to the fact that the 1910 uses Audyssey MultEQ. It even handles 4Ω speakers at average volume without issue.
As noted, the 4311CI is the actual successor to the 3802; however, you don't need to go that high if you don't need the features.
